SHIFT’s Creative Director Louise Shannon on winter site visits to Little Moreton Hall, National Trust
The winter has included more than one very chilly meeting in the grounds of the National Trust’s Little Moreton Hall near Congleton. As part of the SHIFT exhibition programme, we have teamed up with Hannah Pierce, curator of the Trust New Art Programme across the Trust’s North region to commission a new piece of digital work. Hannah and Jo Williams – Visitor Experience Manager and I have had the hall to ourselves as we have been imagining the possibilities of bringing new digital work to this glorious Tudor building.
This commission is a continuation of the Trust New Art Programme at Little Moreton Hall, following on from Liz West’s commission, Autumn Lights in 2016.
It’s always one of the best parts of the job, finding new places to work in. Little Moreton Hall comes with the most amazing opportunities, and for a digital commission, some pretty complex challenges. It is a brave artist who takes up the challenge to produce a digital work with limited power sources and virtually no phone signal or network access. The resulting work will challenge perceptions of the digital, expanding the context and discussions from beyond the screen.
